A neighbourhood celebration brought Rogers Road together with soccer, food, music and community spirit
Soccer brought Rogers Road together this summer for a special Community BBQ and Soccer Celebration, bringing residents, local businesses, families and soccer fans together to celebrate the beautiful game.
Held at 433 Rogers Road, the community event was part of the Rogers Road BIA’s Soccer Lives Here programming celebrating the FIFA World Cup and the neighbourhood’s deep connection to soccer. The afternoon and evening featured a community BBQ, kids’ activities, live music, prizes and a beer garden, creating a welcoming space for neighbours and visitors to gather and enjoy the excitement of the tournament.
A Celebration for the Whole Community
The celebration was about more than watching soccer. It was an opportunity for the Rogers Road community to come together, meet neighbours and enjoy a day filled with activities for all ages.
Families were invited to take part in kids’ activities while visitors could enjoy food, music and the festive atmosphere. Local businesses were also an important part of the celebration, helping showcase the restaurants, cafés, bars and independent businesses that give Rogers Road its distinctive character.
The event reflected the spirit behind Soccer Lives Here — using the excitement of the World Cup as an opportunity to celebrate the people, cultures and businesses that make Rogers Road a vibrant and welcoming neighbourhood.
Soccer, Community and Local Pride
Throughout the Soccer Lives Here campaign, Rogers Road celebrated the many ways soccer connects people. The neighbourhood’s Portuguese, Brazilian, Latin American and other cultural communities all have their own soccer traditions, but the passion for the game creates a common connection.
The Community BBQ brought that spirit out onto the street, creating a space where people could enjoy the tournament atmosphere together while supporting the local community.
From cheering for favourite teams to sharing a meal with neighbours, the celebration showed that soccer isn’t just something that happens inside a stadium. It happens in neighbourhoods, restaurants, community spaces and on the streets of Rogers Road.
More Than a Game
The celebration was also an opportunity to highlight Rogers Road as a destination during the World Cup. Visitors were encouraged to explore the neighbourhood, discover participating businesses and experience the many soccer-related activities taking place throughout the community.
Together with the Rogers Road Soccer Passport, Unity in Diversity mural by La Fefa Cox, Soccer Ball Art Challenge and Community Photo Walk with Bryan Brock, the BBQ formed part of a larger summer celebration connecting soccer, art, culture and community.
The result was a celebration that captured what Rogers Road does best: bringing people together.
